Bristol West MP, Stephen Williams, has warmly welcomed today's announcement that Bristol is to receive millions of pounds in extra funding from the Coalition Government in order to bring the city's public transport infrastructure intro the 21st Century. The package includes £42 million for an Ashton Vale to Temple Meads Rapid Transit route, which will serve the city centre.
Stephen said: "This is excellent news for Bristol. The new city centre Rapid Transit route will see faster and more frequent buses, helping to reduce travel times and encourage more people out of their cars. This in turn will help to reduce both congestion and carbon emissions.
"Together with the Great Western Rail electrification announced earlier this year, this will help to give Bristol a public transport system of which we can be proud."
