Stephen Williams MP was a guest speaker at the launch party for Bristol Gay Pride 2010. The event, held at Goldbrick House on Park Street was also addressed by Bristol City Council Leader Barbara Janke, and councillors from other political parties.
Bristol, unlike many other major cities, has never hosted a successful gay pride event before, and this summer's event is scheduled to take place in the week of 14th-22nd August. Stephen is one of Parliament's few openly-gay MPs, and has been nominated for awards for his national campaigns to highlight homophobic bullying. He told the audience that he had spoken at London Pride to tens of thousands of people in Trafalgar Square, and that he was looking forward to welcoming many people to the Bristol event.
Stephen said, "I hope that Bristol Pride will draw thousands of people from around the country to visit Bristol. More importantly, I think it will soon establish itself as one of Bristol's popular summer festivals, which can be enjoyed by everyone in the city."
