Stephen Williams MP with Councillors Fi Hance & Sylvia Townsend at the Baths
Work is now underway to convert the former Bristol North swimming baths on Gloucester Road to a doctors' surgery. The site was visited by Bristol West MP Stephen Williams and Redland Councillors, Fi Hance and Sylvia Townsend. They were shown around the interior of the old baths by a representative of Chatsworth Homes Ltd. The Baths are to be converted to a new doctors' surgery which will also have additional healthcare facilities including a pharmacy. Part of the old pool will be retained as a hydro-therapy pool. The adjacent car park will have a new library built over it along with a small number of flats. The car park will then re-open. When the development is completed the Logan Road surgery will transfer to its new home and the Cheltenham Road library will also move.
Stephen said, "While I was extremely sad to see the pool close as I was a regular swimmer there, I am delighted that work is now underway for a sympathetic conversion of this important local landmark into a new community use".
Redland Councillor, Fi Hance said, "I'm really looking forward to it opening, and taking my own children to use this facility"
Councillor Sylvia Townsend said, "It will be a fantastic resource for families in the area and a great addition to the Gloucester Road".
