Stephen Williams, Bristol West's Liberal Democrat MP, has urged Kingsdown and Clifton residents to give a strong show of support to the Council's latest plans for Residents' Parking Zones.
Mr Williams has himself responded to the Council with a 'yes' vote, as he is a long-standing resident of Kingsdown, which suffers from chronic commuter parking. As a former member of both Avon County and Bristol City councils, Mr Williams has supported the concept of residents' parking zone for inner-city neighbourhoods for over fifteen years. He said: "I believe that the Council's latest proposals for an RPZ deserve support. They are proposing a modest fee of £30 per year, which will certainly improve the situation dramatically for residents, enabling us to park near our homes during the day."
"The scheme will also deter thousands of commuters who currently use Kingsdown and parts of Clifton as a free parking area, rather than using public transport or perhaps car-sharing and paying for car parking in the city centre."
"The scheme is a win-win situation that benefits local residents, and will improve Bristol's environment, cutting down on pollution and traffic congestion."
