Stephen attends the 'Beating Bowel Cancer' campaign launch in Westminster
On Wednesday 20th January Stephen Williams attended the Parliamentary launch for the 'BE LOUD BE CLEAR' campaign for Beating Bowel Cancer, where he pledged his support to raise awareness about this disease.
Bowel cancer is currently the second most lethal form of cancer in the UK, yet 90% of cases can be successfully treated if caught early. As such the BE LOUD BE CLEAR campaign hopes to raise awareness about cancer screening programmes in order to improve the number of early diagnoses.
Bristol West is served by the Southern bowel cancer screening hub, participation for which is slightly above the national average, however this is still only 57%. Through this campaign and other causes Stephen hopes that this percentage will increase.
Furthermore, immediately after this event, Stephen attended a reception for 'Every Vote Counts' - a project dedicated to helping people with learning disabilities to become better engaged in politics so that they can make their views heard.
