On the first day of the new parliamentary session Bristol West MP Stephen Williams played host to the wards of the Helena Kennedy Foundation. Students from around the country were welcomed to the afternoon tea reception at the members dining room. the Foundation grants bursaries to students who have gone on to University from a Further Education College. Most of them are the first people from their family to access higher education and many have achieved their goal despite difficult family circumstances.
Stephen spoke to the students about the importance of higher education and also about his own journey from a disadvantaged background in South Wales. Baroness Helena Kennedy, a peer much respected for her worked in human tights and constitutional reform, then spoken and presented the students with a certification to commemorate their award.
