Stephen Williams, Lib Dem MP for Bristol West, has expressed his dismay over reports that Bristol International Airport is due to submit a formal application for its £150 million expansion plan.
Stephen Williams MP has long been a vociferous campaigner against airport expansion, particularly regarding Bristol and Heathrow airports. He has opposed plans for a third runway at Heathrow and would rather see public investment in environmentally-sustainable transport projects.
He stated, "I am appalled that Bristol International Airport plans to almost double its number of passengers by 2016. I oppose this unsustainable growth in local air traffic. We all know that we must act with urgency to combat climate change. Aviation is currently the least taxed, lightly controlled form of transport. This situation must change and limiting any expansion of Bristol Airport will make an important contribution to a more sustainable future."
