Stephen Williams Intervenes Decisively On Cycle Path

April 1, 2008 1:47 PM

Stephen Williams MPMP Urges Council to Reject Cycle Path Proposals.

Stephen Williams has strongly urged Bristol City Council to investigate alternatives to the proposed Bus Rapid Transit along the Bristol Bath Cycle Path. In a strongly worded statement to the council on the 1st April, he has claimed that the council must look at more appropriate methods of bus transit than the cycle path. Mr Williams told the council that it would be scandalous to send buses along the Bristol Bath Cycle Path because it is well used by both cyclists and walkers. There has been widespread opposition to the proposals which has included an e-petition which has been signed by over 10,000 people and the establishment of a website dedicated to halting the proposals.

Stephen Williams said:

"A vote for the councillor's motion to save the Bristol Bath Railway Path will send a clear signal to the West of England Partnership to look for other, more appropriate transport corridors."

Furthermore, Stephen Williams rounded on the Labour run City Council claiming that a vote in support of the Bristol Bath Railway Path motion by the council would resolve the confusing and contradictory statements previously made by the administration on this issue.

If you are a resident of the Bristol West constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
