Stephen Williams MP has expressed his shock and dismay that the Post Office is proposing to close another four branches in Bristol West. This comes on top of more than ten closures in the last decade.
The branches proposed for closure are Derby Road in St Andrews, Alma Vale Road in Clifton, Redcliffe Hill and Wellington Hill West in Henleaze.
Stephen said, "These closures are a direct result of Government policy. Labour have closed thousands of Post Offices all around the country. After the spate of closures in recent years I am amazed that they think that Bristol can endure another contraction in this valuable community service."
"I know from my personal experience of seeing my local Post Office on St Michaels Hill close a few years ago that this inevitably leads to long queues at alternative branches. This lack of service is simply not acceptable for the residents of Bristol."
Stephen Williams will be making the strongest possible representations to Post Office Ltd, urging them to reconsider.
"It is important that the Post Office mounts a meaningful consultation. I feel that their previous exercises have been little more than a sham."
