City Council Make U-Turn

The DownsFollowing talks between the Council and campaign group Bristol Parks Forum, around 100 acres of threatened parkland will not be sold off by Bristol City Council.

The original plans involved up to 200 acres being sold to raise more than £100 million for the Council to reinvest. It was feared that only half of the amount raised from the sales would be used to improve the city's remaining parks.

Stephen Williams MP commented:

"I am delighted that the Labour administration has reconsidered their original strategy. Selling so many acres of Bristol's attractive parkland was never going to benefit the city."

"Thanks to persistent challenges and sharp eyes of Liberal Democrat councillors, the Labour cabinet had to rethink their position".
