Work On New Museum Begins

January 16, 2008 1:49 PM

princes wharffDevelopment to transform the former Industrial Museum into the new Museum of Bristol has recently begun.

Renovation of the sheds on Prince's Wharf is thought to be under way, with the aim to have the new museum having two large 3-storey foyers with gallery spaces.

The theme for the museum is a narrative of Bristol from medieval times to the present day, with it due to be opening in 2010.

Stephen Williams MP commented:

"I am extremely excited about the new Museum of Bristol. It sounds like it is has the potential to be something that the city can be proud of."

"The last few months have been somewhat disastrous for Bristol culturally. First there was news that the Commonwealth Museum was to be moved, then the cancellation of the new Arena, and finally the potential closure of the Bristol Old Vic. I truly hope that the new museum can be a stepping stone for Bristol to gain the cultural attraction that it deserves."

If you are a resident of the Bristol West constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
