Stephen Williams MP joined 150 people rallying in opposition to any planned attack on Iran. The 'Don't Attack Iran Day of Action' took place last Saturday and was part of a national campaign to highlight the growing fear that Iran will follow Iraq as a target for regime change.
Stephen Williams MP was invited to speak by the organisers of the event Stop the War. He commented:
"4 ½ years ago, many of us joined together in marches similar to these to demonstrate our opposition to the war in Iraq. The Liberal Democrats were the only party in Westminster to voice opposition to Labour's war and time has justified that position. We must not let the same situation develop with regards to Iran - and should there be any vote in the House of Commons you can be assured that the Liberal Democrats will again vote against any invasion plans.
"We must not be blind though to the oppressive regime in Iran and we must also be wary of Iranian plans to expand their nuclear programme. But invasion, with the ambition of regime change, must not be allowed to happen again."
