Prospective Lib Dem MP for Bristol West has welcomed EU action
Liberal Democrat Euro-MPs have backed moves to protect the rights of British citizens travelling to France on cross-channel ferries to buy wine and cigarettes. Because Britain is part of the European Union, British people are allowed to bring back as many goods as they like, as long as they are for personal use.
But the British Government has been challenging this right, seizing the goods and sometimes even confiscating their cars. Prospective Lib Dem MP for Bristol West Stephen Williams said "We are all entitled to buy goods for our own personal use and bring them back into Britain, and the Government has no right to stop us. Thank goodness the European Union is standing up for our rights."
